Carrollton Storm Drain Art Contest - Third Wave
City of Carrollton seeks 7 artists to paint storm drains downtown with water conservation themes. Open to DFW artists 12+.
The City of Carrollton is launching its third annual Storm Drain Art Contest, inviting local artists to create meaningful public art while raising awareness about water conservation. Seven selected artists will paint storm drain inlets along South Broadway Street in Downtown Carrollton. The program serves a dual purpose: beautifying the downtown area with public art and educating the community about stormwater pollution prevention. Submissions should focus on themes including preventing stormwater pollution, maintaining safe drinking water sources and water conservation, or protecting natural habitats. The contest is open to Carrollton residents, local organizations, and DFW-area artists aged 12 and older. Minors require parental permission, and previous participants may reapply through the anonymous selection process. Artwork must be family-friendly, non-commercial, and avoid graffiti-style aesthetics to help deter vandalism. Winners will be selected by a committee based on design criteria and notified before the March 2026 installation. All materials are provided by the city, including eco-friendly acrylic paints, brushes, safety gear, and prep supplies. City staff will handle drain preparation and sealing. Selected artists will be featured on the city website and are eligible for the People's Choice Award, which grants first pick of storm drain locations.
