Cessnock Hospital Art Commission - Local Artists Wanted

Artists with Cessnock/Hunter connections invited to create artworks for new $138M hospital redevelopment. EOI open for wall art commissions.

Local artists have a unique opportunity to contribute to the $138 million Cessnock Hospital Redevelopment through art commissions that will become a permanent part of this transformative healthcare facility. The project, delivered in partnership with Hunter New England Local Health District, Health Infrastructure, and builder Hansen Yuncken, will create a new two-storey acute health services building with expanded emergency department, operating theatres, inpatient wards, and modern medical facilities. Artworks will be featured in key spaces throughout the facility to create welcoming and uplifting environments that support clinical and wellbeing outcomes for patients, staff, and visitors. This initiative aims to incorporate local creativity and celebrate the region's culture, ensuring the facility reflects the community it serves. Submissions are welcomed from both established and emerging artists, with particular encouragement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives, organizations, and collaborative groups. Available opportunities include large-scale wall artworks and curated wall-hung pieces for clinical corridors. Construction is currently underway with completion expected in 2027, making this a lasting legacy opportunity for selected artists.
