Chalk the Walk: Call for Artists
Free live chalk art event in Downtown West Chicago on May 16, 2026. Artists receive 8x8 pavement space and professional chalk pastels. Awards up to $500.
The City of West Chicago is hosting its first-ever Chalk the Walk event as part of Blooming Fest's 25th anniversary celebration. This unique art opportunity takes place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Downtown West Chicago and is free and open to the public.
Artists are invited to participate in a live chalk art experience centered on this year's theme: flowers, pollinators, and the natural beauty of spring. Each participating artist will receive an approximately 8-by-8-foot section of pavement and a set of high-quality professional chalk pastels to create their artwork.
There is no participation fee for artists. However, space is limited, and submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. Artists will be notified of acceptance status via email.
In addition to the dedicated artists' area, a community corner will be available for the public to engage in a vibrant, flower-themed chalk art experience.
Awards and recognition include: Best in Show ($500), Best on Theme ($250), and People's Choice Award ($250), which is selected by the public.
Chalk the Walk is described as a unique opportunity to showcase creativity, celebrate spring, and be part of a milestone year for Blooming Fest. Artists of all styles and experience levels are encouraged to apply. The event celebrates natural beauty and community engagement through public art.
