Chelsea Park Public Art Plan Consultant
City of Burien seeks qualified artist or consultant to lead public engagement and develop a Public Art Plan for Chelsea Park playground replacement project.
The City of Burien is inviting qualified artists, artist teams, or consultants to lead a comprehensive public engagement process and develop a Public Art Plan for Chelsea Park. This opportunity is part of a major playground replacement project funded through Community Development Block Grant dollars.
The Public Art Plan should reflect the history of Chelsea Park, the character of the surrounding neighborhood, and the values of park users. The selected consultant or artist team will work with residents to help shape the design, look, and feel of the updated space while exploring opportunities for public art that highlights community stories.
The new playground equipment will fit within the park's existing footprint and feature age-appropriate elements for two primary age groups: children ages 2-5 and youth ages 5-12. This project represents a significant investment in the health, recreation, and wellbeing of the neighborhood.
The project timeline includes selection of the consultant/artist in March 2026, completion of the Public Art Plan by August 2026, and a call for artists or concept designs running from August through November 2026. The playground replacement is identified as a priority in the city's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Capital Improvement Plan.
