City Stages: Temporary Sidewalk Murals

Chattanooga seeking artists to create four temporary sidewalk murals for street performance zones. $4,290 per project. Deadline Dec. 22, 2025.

Chattanooga's Public Art Division is launching the 'City Stages' project, seeking professional visual artists or artist teams to create four temporary sidewalk murals. This initiative aims to enhance the city's vibrant performing arts scene and activate key public spaces by creating distinct, artist-designed visual markers that will designate official street performance zones. The murals will formally structure visibility for hired performers, celebrate Chattanooga's musical and cultural identity, and increase pedestrian activity to support local businesses. The project will feature murals sized between 4 feet wide by 4 feet deep and 6 feet wide by 6 feet deep, installed in four high-traffic locations: Renaissance Park, Coolidge Park, Miller Plaza, and St. Elmo. Each selected artist or team will receive $4,290 for design, fabrication, installation, materials, and travel. The project seeks four professional visual artists or artist teams. Installation is scheduled to occur from March through May 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for artists to contribute to public art initiatives while receiving fair compensation and gaining visibility in a vibrant cultural community.
