CityFleet Art Opportunity - Swan Island Public Art
Two $150,000 public art opportunities: aluminum gate artwork and large-scale sculpture for Portland's CityFleet facility on Swan Island.
The City of Portland, in partnership with the Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) and Office of Arts & Culture, invites artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for public art at the CityFleet facilities on Swan Island. This opportunity is made possible by Portland's Percent for Art Program, which dedicates up to 2% of qualifying infrastructure project budgets to public art. Two separate opportunities are available: artwork that will attach to two functional aluminum gates, and a large-scale sculpture. Each opportunity has a budget of $150,000, and artists may apply to either or both using the same application. The project relocates CityFleet from the historic 1922 Kerby Garage in SE Portland to a renovated warehouse on Swan Island, spanning over 105,000 sq. ft. with 125 parking stalls. Swan Island holds significant historical importance for Portland's industry and Indigenous peoples including the Multnomah, Clackamas, and Cowlitz peoples. Artwork should contribute to an inviting space that evokes well-being, honors the legacy of industry and trade workers, recognizes CityFleet's essential role in city functions, and may draw inspiration from natural, historical, industrial, or cultural themes, or a technologically advanced future. The surrounding area includes FedEx, Swan Island Wholesale Flower Market, and Portland Community College's Trade Center.
