Community Recreation Center Public Art Call
Grand Junction seeking original artwork for new Community Recreation Center. Six commissioned pieces including murals and installations.
The City of Grand Junction is announcing a call for artists to create original artwork for the new Community Recreation Center, which is currently under construction. This is a significant opportunity for artists to have their work featured in a major public space.
The project involves six separate art commissions:
- Mural designs for the child watch room
- Mural for the mezzanine fitness studio
- Mural for the community room
- Story wall installation
- Recognition wall installation
- Acoustic panel design for the community lounge
Artists will have a two-month period to prepare their proposals and designs. The selection panel will consist of representatives from the City of Grand Junction and the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture, ensuring professional evaluation of submissions.
Funding for this initiative comes from the city's 1% for the Arts Program, which allocates 1% of certain city capital improvement project budgets for public art. This program is dedicated to expanding opportunities for residents and visitors to experience high-quality public art and fostering a creative environment in the city.
Installations are scheduled for July and August 2026, giving selected artists adequate time to complete their work. This is a meaningful opportunity for artists to contribute to the cultural landscape of Grand Junction and be part of a community-focused public art initiative.
