Creatives Among Us Project - Antigua & Barbuda

Honor unsung creative heroes across 7 cultural sectors in Antigua & Barbuda through documentary profiles celebrating overlooked artists.

The Department of Culture of Antigua and Barbuda has launched the 'Creatives Among Us' project to celebrate and honor outstanding individuals who are often overlooked in the creative community. This initiative aims to recognize the 'unsung heroes' who work behind the scenes but have significantly impacted society through their contributions to the arts. Seven outstanding individuals will be selected across various cultural sectors including Music, Dance, Drama, Visual Arts, Film, Literary Arts, Carnival Arts, and Craft. The project focuses on celebrating those who may not be in the spotlight but have made meaningful contributions to Antigua and Barbuda's cultural landscape. Selected honorees will be featured in a documentary premiering in late October, where their journeys and stories will be shared with the public. Previous honorees have included notable figures like Kenny Wilson, a musician who performed for visitors at the airport and once played for James Brown, and Keith Roy Benjamin, known as the Chacha Dumpling Man. The project serves as both recognition and preservation of the country's cultural heritage, ensuring that the stories of these important cultural contributors are documented and celebrated for future generations.
