Curatorial Research Programme Denmark

Funding for curators and art professionals to conduct research trips in Denmark, covering travel and accommodation costs up to DKK 15,000.

The Danish Arts Foundation Curatorial Research Programme offers targeted funding for art professionals to conduct research trips focused on contemporary art in Denmark. This initiative supports curators, exhibition directors, art critics, and art mediators working with contemporary art to engage deeply with Danish artists, galleries, and institutions. The program promotes international collaboration, sustainable travel practices, and the professional development of curatorial expertise while strengthening connections between international professionals and the Danish art scene. The program provides maximum funding of DKK 15,000 per person, with eligible expenses limited to travel and accommodation costs only. Research trips typically last between 3–7 days, and applicants must independently organize meetings and studio visits. Travel must be booked in economy class. Ineligible expenses include per diems, participation in openings or conferences, visa fees, local short-distance transport, and travel related to pre-programmed exhibitions. The program encourages sustainable and environmentally considerate transport choices. Eligibility is open to curators, exhibition directors, art critics, and art mediators working with contemporary art. Danish institutions may apply on behalf of foreign curators. Applicants must have existing contacts in the Danish art scene or a planned project with specific artists or institutions. To apply, applicants must register via the Grant Portal with accurate bank account and personal details, prepare required annexes including goals and day programme, detailed budget, and CV highlighting 10 key points of curatorial practice, and submit the application before the deadline. Applications can be edited until the deadline, and decisions are communicated within 12 weeks.
