Daniel Singer Millennium Prize 2026

$10,000 award for published essays analyzing ethnonationalism and anti-immigrant politics in global crises.

The Daniel Singer Millennium Prize awards $10,000 to recognize published essays that critically examine ethnonationalism and anti-immigrant politics in response to global crises. Established by the Daniel Singer Foundation, this prize honors work that combines analytical depth with accessibility, reflecting the intellectual and political spirit of socialist journalist Daniel Singer.

The prize seeks essays that demonstrate rigorous analysis of contemporary political and social issues, particularly the rise of ethnonationalism and anti-immigrant politics amid global crises. The award recognizes scholarship and journalism that illuminates pressing global issues and promotes informed public discourse.

Eligible submissions include essays published within the specified timeframe that directly engage with ethnonationalism, anti-immigrant politics, and related global crises. Authors, editors, or contributors connected to the work may submit, provided authorship rules are respected. Essays published in languages other than English are accepted if accompanied by an English translation for official review.

Submissions must include the essay itself, a concise motivating statement in English explaining the work's relevance and contribution, and a direct link to the published work. Essays must adhere to specified length limits to ensure clarity and focus.

Evaluation criteria include analytical quality and depth of insight, accessibility and clarity of writing for broad audiences, intellectual alignment with Daniel Singer's critical materialist perspective, and direct relevance to global crises and their sociopolitical consequences. The Daniel Singer Millennium Prize Foundation board conducts evaluation, with final decisions being binding.

The winner receives a $10,000 cash award, formal recognition at a public event and panel discussion organized by the Foundation, and visibility among scholars, journalists, and audiences interested in social and political analysis. Only the selected winner receives direct notification.
