Deering Estate 2026 Artists-in-Residence
The Deering Estate welcomes emerging and mid-career artists for studio and non-studio residencies across multiple disciplines.
The Deering Estate continues Charles Deering's legacy of art patronage by supporting emerging and mid-career artists who work in a multitude of disciplines and media. The prestigious and competitive Artist-in-Residence Program is a direct extension of this legacy and acts as an incubator for creative ideas, unique experiences, and collaborative opportunities that engage the public.
Two types of residencies are available:
Studio Residencies are housed in the Artist Village Buildings, Carriage House, and Power House. These provide dedicated workspace for artists to develop their practice. Recent studio recipients include photographer Tony Fernandez, photographer Josh Aronson, and sculptor Emily Peters.
Non-Studio Residencies consist of specific interactions with the Estate and its resources, offering unique opportunities for artists working across various media. Recent non-studio residents include visual artists, sculptors, sound artists, multimedia artists, and literary artists.
The program welcomes professional Visual, Performing, and Literary Artists who are self-motivated and focused. Selection is based primarily on the strength and quality of the applicant's work and a clear objective for their residency period. All positions are competitively selected through a jury process using leading professionals from galleries, collaborative arts, and cultural organizations.
The Deering Estate Artist in Residence Program has been a catalyst for artistic practice and recognition, leading to additional residencies, national and local grants, gallery representation, collection acquisitions, and community engagement opportunities.
The Estate also features Programming Partners who lead public programming reflecting their unique artistic practices and contributions to cultural dialogue, providing year-round engagement for visitors.
