Detroit Lakes Arts & Culture Festival - Future Opportunity
New arts festival planned for fall 2026 in Detroit Lakes, seeking community artists and cultural organizations to participate.
The Detroit Lakes Arts and Culture Commission is planning to launch a new two-day arts and culture festival, potentially debuting in fall 2026. The festival would take place over a weekend in late September or early October, functioning similarly to the city's Polar Fest format where the commission serves as facilitators while different entities contribute their own events. Local venues like the Holmes theater and the museum would be encouraged to participate with their own programming. The commission envisions this as a community-wide celebration that would showcase local and regional artists and cultural organizations. This initiative comes after the successful launch of the 'Art on a Stick' public art installation featuring 12 works by local and regional artists displayed at four city parks. The commission is also planning another call for artists for the Art on a Stick project, as the current display is scheduled to continue only through next summer. While still in early planning stages, the festival represents an opportunity for artists and cultural organizations to be involved in a new annual celebration of arts and culture in the Detroit Lakes community. Further details and formal planning will be discussed at the commission's next meeting scheduled for December 17 at the Becker County Museum.
