Dome House Artist-in-Residence Program
Eight-week residency for Midwest visual artists at the Dome House near Lake Michigan. Live/work experience with public engagement opportunities.
The Miller Art Museum is now accepting applications for the Al and Mickey Quinlan Artist Residency at the Dome House, scheduled for August 2 through September 27, 2026. This eight-week residency offers Midwest visual artists a fully immersive live and work experience at the Dome House, an artist-designed structure nestled in the dunes along Lake Michigan near Whitefish Dunes State Park.
Launched in 2021 in partnership with the Quinlan/Wagner family, the program supports focused creative development while promoting public engagement through workshops, artist talks, open studios, and other unique programming. Over five years, the program has evolved into a sought-after opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists interested in producing ambitious new bodies of work deeply informed by place, process, and public engagement.
Projects generated during previous residencies have included expansive drawing and painting series, site-responsive installations, and culminating exhibitions that draw visitors from across the region. The program welcomes applications from visual artists across the Midwest, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
The residency provides a unique opportunity to create in an inspiring location while engaging with the local community and developing meaningful artistic projects.
