Downtown Aiken Mural Design Competition

Local artists invited to submit original mural designs for downtown Aiken's new Cultural District public art installation. $7,000 stipend awarded.

Local artists are invited to submit original mural design proposals for a new public art installation in downtown Aiken, South Carolina. The selected mural will be installed in the downtown Alley, honoring Aiken's recent designation as one of only 13 "cultural districts" in the state.

Designs should be colorful, interactive, and welcoming, creating engaging photo opportunities for the public. The mural will incorporate the phrase "Aiken Downtown Cultural District" and should reflect a broad range of artistic disciplines, including visual arts, music, theater, dance, and written or spoken word.

The mural will be painted on removable panels and installed in the downtown area. The selected artist will receive a $7,000 stipend for their work.

This call is open to artists residing in, or with strong ties to, Aiken County and the surrounding areas. All applicants must describe their connection to the area as part of their submission.

Submission materials must include a digital mock-up of the proposed mural, a written artistic vision statement, and supporting materials. All submissions should be sent via email to the contact information provided on the official website.
