Edinburgh International Festival 2026 - All Rise

EIF 2026 explores themes of freedom, ingenuity, and prejudice through artistic programming marking 250 years of American Independence.

The Edinburgh International Festival 2026 announces its theme "All Rise," a call to action for artists and audiences to examine the ideas and impact of the USA. The festival will explore themes of freedom, ingenuity, and prejudice within a rapidly changing world order. The theme derives its name from Wynton Marsalis's symphony "All Rise," which will serve as the opening concert featuring over 200 performers. The festival presents a diverse program of socially conscious work, including exhibitions and performances addressing racism, censorship, free speech, and social justice. Notable productions include Tony Kushner's "Angels in America," Zora Howard's "Hang Time," and "Four Walls And A Roof" examining McCarthy-era censorship and contemporary free speech issues. The festival also features international work such as Rwanda's "Ingoma!" about women healing after genocide, and the Palestinian Khashabi Theatre performance of "Al-Sirah Al-Hilaliyyah" exploring migration through physical theatre, music, puppetry, and dance. The festival continues its commitment to artistic excellence and social commentary, presenting work that challenges audiences to consider critical issues facing contemporary society. This is an opportunity for artists, performers, and cultural organizations to engage with one of the world's premier arts festivals and present work that resonates with global themes of justice and human dignity.
