Elbows Up! Exhibition - Artsplace Gallery
Group exhibition showcasing contemporary visual artists' reflections on Canada's culture, diversity, resilience, and sovereignty at Artsplace Gallery.
Elbows Up! is a group exhibition featuring contemporary visual artists who showcase their reflections on Canada's culture, diversity, resilience, and sovereignty. The exhibition was developed by the Lunenburg School of the Arts in 2025 in response to expressions of disregard by the United States administration toward Canada's sovereignty and its democratically elected officials. The school initiated this exhibition as a thoughtful and assertive cultural statement.
The Lunenburg School of the Arts issued an open call to artists on April 11, 2025, inviting submissions of one visual artwork responding to the exhibition theme, accompanied by an artist statement. The call received 40 works of art, and the resulting exhibition presents a wide range of artistic responses shaped by both historic and current events that continue to influence life in Canada.
The exhibition has previously been displayed at the Lunenburg School of the Arts and at the Mary E. Black Gallery on Halifax's waterfront. It is now coming to Artsplace Gallery in Annapolis Royal from January 17 to February 14, 2026.
A closing reception is scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026, from noon to 2 p.m., with an artist panel taking place from 1-2 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity for artists and community members to engage with the works and participate in dialogue with the featured artists.
Artsplace is a public art gallery operated by the Annapolis Region Community Arts Council, located at 396 St. George Street in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia.
