Elyria City Hall Mural Call for Artists
Elyria Community Partnership seeks artists to create a large-scale mural on City Hall reflecting the community's history and future vision.
Elyria Community Partnership, in collaboration with the City of Elyria and local stakeholders, has launched a call for artists to create a large-scale mural on Elyria City Hall. The mural will be located on a City Hall wall facing Ely Square and the nearby Huntington building.
The project is intended to reflect Elyria's history, lived experiences and shared vision for the future. According to executive director Monet Roberts-Walton, "We're really looking for an artist who can respect Elyria's past while also helping us tell a story about where we're headed."
Artists from local, regional and national levels are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have experience completing murals of similar scale. While specific themes are not required, stakeholders have identified several ideas for inspiration, including cultural heritage, nature, realism, mixed media collage and bold abstract styles.
This is a highly collaborative process. The selected artist will work closely with the partnership, city administration, City Council members and a stakeholder focus group that includes youth voices. After an initial vetting process, the selected artist will participate in a workshop with stakeholders to gather feedback and refine concepts before moving forward.
The project aligns with Elyria Community Partnership's broader mission to improve quality of life and strengthen downtown vibrancy. Public art was identified as a priority during the organization's 2023 vibrancy action plan. The goal is to complete the mural later in 2026, potentially in connection with America's 250th anniversary celebrations and Elyria's summer programming.
