Festival of Data Art Commissions - Liverpool City Region

Up to 8 local artists sought to create data-driven artworks collaborating with analysts and schoolchildren for February 2026 festival.

The Liverpool City Region Civic Data Cooperative is commissioning up to 8 local artists for a unique 6-8 week project running from late November/early December 2025 through February 2026. This exciting opportunity combines data storytelling, community engagement, and participatory art, culminating in the inaugural Festival of Data from 5-7 February 2026. Each commissioned artist will collaborate with CDC data analysts to select compelling datasets about the Liverpool City Region, then design and deliver participatory workshops with local children aged 10-12, exploring the data through art activities. Artists will produce artworks based on workshop outcomes and present them at the public, family-friendly festival exhibition. The project requires up to 8 days commitment across the project period, including preparation and festival delivery time. Artists working in any medium are welcome - painting, sculpture, digital art, film, performance, sound, and more. Essential criteria include being an artist living and working in the Liverpool City Region with interest in community engagement, data storytelling, or participatory practice. This commission is central to the Festival of Data's goal of harnessing creative ideas from communities and helping the city region understand how civic data is used to make decisions. Artist fees and separate materials budget details will be provided upon shortlisting.
