Franklin High School Legacy Project Art Collection
Franklin Area School District seeks original 2D artwork from artists 18+ for its Legacy Project collection at the high school.
The Franklin Area School District has issued a call for artwork to continue growing its Legacy Project art collection at Franklin High School. This opportunity invites local, regional, and national artists aged 18 years and older to submit original two-dimensional artwork for consideration.
Accepted artwork types include drawing, painting, 2D textile art, and printmaking. One piece will be anonymously selected from all submissions through a student vote by the senior class of 2026. The selected artwork will be revealed to the community at the end of the school year.
The chosen artwork will be professionally framed and installed in the hallways of the high school alongside other works in the Legacy Project art collection, which is now in its fourth year. The collection features artwork by local artists Amy Ivell, Holly Lynn Gibbons, and Edna A. McElree, as well as national artists Lisa Mistiuk and R.K. Jolley.
The Legacy Project was based on a similar initiative started during the Great Depression by the Greater Latrobe School District, which has accumulated a collection of over 200 artworks. Franklin Area High School art teacher and collection director Darrellyn Freeman started this project in 2022 to build an in-house collection of art that celebrates student involvement in the selection and curation process.
This is an excellent opportunity for artists to have their work displayed in an educational setting and selected by the student body. Submissions should be original works in the specified two-dimensional mediums.
