Fruita Downtown Restroom Mural Commission
Fruita, Colorado seeks local artists to create an original mural for the Downtown Restroom featuring community stewardship messages.
Fruita, Colorado is launching a public art initiative called "Do Fruita Right" and is seeking proposals from local artists to create an original mural for the Downtown Restroom located on Aspen Avenue. This is an exciting opportunity for artists to contribute to their community while promoting important environmental and recreational stewardship values.
The mural must incorporate seven key messages that form the foundation of the Do Fruita Right campaign: Know Before You Go, Keep it Crusty, Share the Trail, Camp with Care, Trash the Trash, Take It Slow Take It In, and Right Spot Right Vibes. These principles were developed in collaboration with local partners including the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, Welcome Center, Museums of Western Colorado, and the Fruita Tourism Advisory Council.
The initiative aims to educate both visitors and residents about protecting Fruita's trails, public lands, and community spaces while enhancing everyone's experience. The campaign was developed throughout 2025 with support from the Colorado Tourism Office through their Development Mentorship program.
Selected artists will have their design featured as a public art installation that will serve as a lasting reminder of community values. This mural project is part of a broader Do Fruita Right campaign that includes social media toolkits for local businesses and messaging guidelines for lodging providers.
The city values feasibility, scale, and environmental fit when evaluating proposals. This is an excellent opportunity for artists passionate about community engagement, outdoor recreation, and environmental stewardship to showcase their work in a high-visibility location.
