Glass Town Public Art Display Commission

Sandwich, MA seeks artists for temporary public art installation celebrating America's 250th anniversary with $9,500 budget.

The Glass Town Cultural District Steering Committee is inviting artists to submit proposals for a temporary public art display in Sandwich, Massachusetts. This public art installation will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, known as America250 or The United States Semiquincentennial.

The selected artwork will be displayed on the Sandwich Library lawn for a three-year period. The installation will be dedicated on July 1, 2026, as part of the town's America250 celebration, which includes a concert featuring the town band on the library lawn.

The committee seeks artwork that reflects Sandwich's rich history and creative spirit while embodying the spirit of both Sandwich and America. The ideal submission should be visually striking, thought-provoking, engaging, and spark curiosity. While interactivity is not required, the artwork should invite interaction and resonate with the historic nature of Sandwich Village.

The total budget of $9,500 covers the artist stipend, materials, installation, and maintenance throughout the three-year display period. The project requires approval from the Glass Town Cultural District Steering Committee, the Select Board, and the Historic District Committee before final implementation.
