Global Call to Artists & Intellectuals

UNEAC calls artists and intellectuals worldwide to mobilize in solidarity with Cuba and defend its sovereignty and independence.

The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) has released a global call to artists, intellectuals, and creators worldwide to mobilize in defense of the Cuban cause. This is not a traditional competition or exhibition, but rather a movement for international solidarity and advocacy. The call emphasizes Cuba's historical struggle for independence and its achievements in culture, education, healthcare, and social development despite economic hardship. Cuba has developed a world-recognized artistic movement through comprehensive, free art schools training dancers, actors, painters, filmmakers, and musicians from humble backgrounds. The call highlights Cuba's contributions to global peace, including sending doctors and teachers internationally, creating vaccines distributed free of charge, and promoting sports as a people's right. UNEAC invokes José Martí's vision and calls upon all honest, humanist individuals worldwide to stand in solidarity with Cuba, particularly against the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade since 1962. The appeal emphasizes that supporting Cuba means defending the sovereignty and peace rights of all peoples. The call is signed by 47 prominent Cuban cultural figures including National Prize winners in literature, visual arts, theater, dance, music, film, and other disciplines. This represents an opportunity for international artists and intellectuals to participate in a global solidarity movement recognizing Cuba's cultural achievements and political independence.
