GoRaleigh/GoWake Access Transit Facility Public Art
Hire an artist or team to create public art for a new paratransit facility. Budget up to $200,000. Apply by April 6, 2026.
The City of Raleigh seeks to hire an artist or artist team to create public art for the proposed GoRaleigh/GoWake Access Transit Facility. This is a collaboration between Raleigh Arts and Transportation for a new access transit facility at Poole Road that will replace the current building. The facility will feature expanded office space, ADA eligibility testing, and call centers serving both Raleigh and Wake County, scheduling over 2,000 daily trips for people with disabilities, older adults, and rural residents.
Artwork can be stand-alone or mounted to the building and could be located outside or inside the facility. Artists should consider universal design principles, such as engaging audiences with low vision through high contrast imagery and audio descriptions. Artwork could invite interaction through sound, light, touch via digital components or incorporate tactile elements. Co-creation opportunities with community members are encouraged.
Artists and designers with experience in universal design principles and accessibility design are strongly encouraged to apply. The public art will serve as a showcase, teaching tool for staff training, and be included on art tours, exemplifying universal design principles for equitable, flexible, and intuitive use.
Total budget is up to $200,000, with final budget dependent on approved designs and cost estimates. Budget scope should include artist design, presentations and renderings, travel, engineering and construction documents if needed, equipment, fabrication, coordination, and installation.
Timeline: Project awarded April-May 2026, concept design due August-September 2026, final design due December 2026-January 2027, fabrication and installation in 2027-2028.
