Greenfield Sidewalk Murals for American Revolution 250th
City of Greenfield seeking artists for 10 Revolutionary War themed sidewalk murals, $1,100 stipend per artist, completion by June 2025.
The City of Greenfield, Massachusetts is launching a downtown sidewalk art tour featuring 10 educational murals to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. This project is funded by a $15,500 grant from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT) as part of statewide initiatives celebrating the Revolutionary War's milestone anniversary. Selected artists will receive a $1,100 stipend each to create murals that highlight Greenfield's historical connections to the American Revolution. The murals will be painted on various sidewalk locations throughout downtown Greenfield and are designed to serve as an educational art tour for residents and visitors. Similar to the city's existing abolitionist history sidewalk murals, these Revolutionary War-themed artworks are expected to last approximately two to three years. The selection process will involve a judging contest, with the city issuing a call for artists within the next month. Artists must complete their murals by early June 2025 to coincide with the launch of guided tours beginning in June, with major tour activities planned around July 4th. This opportunity is part of Massachusetts' broader celebration of the Revolutionary War's 250th anniversary, supported by $2 million in grants from the Healey-Driscoll administration distributed to 59 organizations across the state.
Submission Guidelines
Artists must participate in a judging contest process. Murals must depict themes of the Revolutionary War and Greenfield's historical links to the American Revolution. Completion required by early June 2025.
