HCCC 2026-2027 Artist Residency Program

Houston Center for Contemporary Craft opens applications for 3-12 month residencies with $1,000 monthly stipend for craft artists.

The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC) has announced an open call for its 2026-2027 Artist Residency Program cycle. For nearly 25 years, this program has provided craft artists with dedicated time and studio space to focus on their creative practice while sharing their processes and techniques with the public.

The program welcomes emerging, midcareer, and established artists working in craft media including wood, glass, metal, fiber, and clay. Artists whose work explores the intersection of contemporary craft and photography are eligible to apply for the specialized Interdisciplinary Craft + Photography (ICP) Artist Residency, offered in partnership with Houston Center for Photography (HCP).

Selected resident artists will receive a $1,000 monthly stipend along with 24/7 access to studio space, professional development opportunities, and the chance to exhibit in the HCCC's annual In Residence summer exhibition. Eight to 10 artists from across the U.S. and abroad will be selected for residencies lasting three to 12 months, with preference given to six- and nine-month terms.

ICP Artist Residency participants are eligible for three-month terms and receive all standard HCCC resident artist benefits plus printing credits and access to HCP's digital lab. The jury considers the quality of creative work, artist's career direction, public engagement ability, and program diversity. A key requirement is that resident artists maintain open studios for at least two days weekly, allowing visitors to observe their work and engage directly with the artists.
