ICA Artist Pass - Free Annual Admission

Massachusetts-based artists receive one year of free general admission to the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston.

The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston has launched the ICA Artist Pass, a new initiative designed to support and engage Massachusetts-based artists. This program provides eligible artists with one year of complimentary general admission to the museum.

Under the leadership of new director Nora Burnett Abrams, who joined the ICA in May 2025, the museum is deepening its relevance and connection to the local arts community. The Artist Pass represents the museum's commitment to fostering relationships with contemporary artists and expanding its role as a catalyst and hub for creativity in Boston.

The ICA, located in the Seaport district, is known for producing high-caliber contemporary art exhibitions and collaborating directly with artists. The museum recently organized an exhibition of acclaimed artist Simone Leigh's work for the 2022 Venice Biennale and hosted a mid-career survey at the Seaport location. Additionally, the ICA operates the Watershed, a satellite space in East Boston that extends the museum's reach and programming.

This initiative aligns with Director Abrams's vision from her previous role at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, where she successfully launched programs like the Octopus Initiative, which commissioned artworks from local artists and distributed them to community members. At the ICA, Abrams is focused on deepening the museum's relevance in the city through partnerships and innovative programs that support the contemporary art ecosystem.

The Artist Pass is part of a broader strategy to ensure that contemporary artists have access to cultural resources and can continue to thrive in Boston, even as the city faces challenges in retaining and supporting its creative community.
