Imperial Beach Splash Pad Art Call - Mechanical Enclosure
Port of San Diego seeks artists to create artwork for splash pad mechanical enclosure at Portwood Pier Plaza in Imperial Beach.
The Port of San Diego is seeking professional artists to develop artwork that will visually enhance a mechanical enclosure as part of a new splash pad installation at Portwood Pier Plaza in Imperial Beach. This opportunity is part of ongoing improvements to the Imperial Beach Pier and adjacent plaza area, with the splash pad project having a $1.8 million budget approved by the Board of Port Commissioners in April 2024. The artwork should create a welcoming feeling of belonging and resonate with thematic elements of the area, bringing energy, engagement, and visual excitement to the community. The splash pad project is anticipated to commence in early 2026 and be completed by late 2026, pending completion of design and permitting phases. This call for artists is open to professional artists residing in San Diego, Imperial, Orange, and Riverside Counties, with local Imperial Beach artists strongly encouraged to apply. The goal is to activate and beautify this waterfront community space through meaningful artistic intervention that connects with the coastal environment and local character.
