IX 2016 BCRA National Painting Award

Argentine and foreign artists living in Argentina invited to submit paintings for the National Painting Award with prizes up to ARS150,000.

The Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) is extending its call for the IX 2016 National Painting Award, inviting Argentine and foreign artists residing in Argentina to participate in this prestigious competition. The award aims to preserve, promote, and encourage national painting while building the BCRA's pictorial heritage collection.

The competition features multiple prize categories with substantial monetary awards. The main categories include First Purchase Prize (ARS100,000), Second Purchase Prize (ARS75,000), Third Purchase Prize (ARS50,000), and two Purchase Mentions (ARS30,000 each). Additionally, there is a dedicated Stimulus Prize for Artists under 35, offering First Purchase Prize (ARS50,000), Second Purchase Prize (ARS40,000), and three Purchase Mentions (ARS25,000 each). The highest award is the Great Prize for Distinguished Painters at ARS150,000.

The competition is overseen by a distinguished jury comprised of Rafael Cippolini, Silvia Gurfein, Oscar Smoljan, Tulio De Zagastizábal, and Mercedes Casanegra, with Eva Grinstein serving as the curator for this edition.

Selected paintings will be exhibited at a museum or cultural center to be determined, with an official opening ceremony where the jury and BCRA authorities will present the awards. Winning works become part of the BCRA's pictorial heritage collection housed within its facilities, which have been declared National Historic Heritage.

This is an excellent opportunity for emerging and established artists to gain recognition, secure funding, and have their work permanently featured in a prestigious institutional collection.
