LACMA 2026 Art + Technology Lab RFP

Open call for artists to submit proposals engaging emerging technologies. Awards up to $50,000 plus in-kind support.

LACMA's Art + Technology Lab is issuing a Request for Proposals for 2026, inviting artists to submit innovative projects that critically and imaginatively engage with emerging or evolving technologies. Since its relaunch in 2013, the Lab has supported 45 artist projects and hosted over 121 public programs, fostering ambitious collaborations between artists, technologists, and researchers.

Selected artists will receive awards of up to $50,000 along with in-kind support from LACMA and private partners in technology and science. The Lab supports projects ranging from speculative prototypes to fully realized artworks, providing artists with time, resources, and institutional support to explore how emerging technologies shape cultural, social, and political forces.

With renewed support from Hyundai Motor Company, LACMA is expanding the Art + Technology Lab's scope and impact. The 2026 cycle introduces a new programmatic structure featuring: open call grants supporting 3-5 recipients per cycle, invitational projects responding to technological developments or extending past recipients' work, a biennial Symposium beginning in 2027 with artist demonstrations and talks, and a biennial Demo Day starting in 2028 showcasing completed projects.

The Lab remains committed to supporting artist-led, research-driven proposals responsive to contemporary complexities. Artists working across all disciplines and technological approaches are encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted by April 22, 2026, at 11:59 pm PT.
