Laurens County Storm Drain Murals Artist Call

Keep Laurens County Beautiful seeks artists to create storm drain murals. Submit artwork or hire a muralist by December 10, 2025.

Keep Laurens County Beautiful (KLCB) is calling for submissions for a new wave of storm drain murals in Laurens County. This is an exciting opportunity for local artists to contribute to both public art and environmental education in their community.

The storm drain mural project aims to raise awareness about keeping storm drains clear of trash and pollution, which ultimately ends up in local streams and drinking water. The murals serve as important educational tools to address the common misconception that storm drains lead to sewer treatment facilities. In reality, anything entering a storm drain flows directly into the nearest river, lake, or stream, including litter, auto fluids, yard chemicals, and pet waste.

This year, KLCB hopes to add four additional storm drain murals to complement existing installations. Previous murals include works by artist Adam Schrimmer of Blank Canvas Company (South St. and S. Harper St. in Laurens; W. Main St. in Gray Court) and Clinton High School art student Leia Upton (Pitts St. and Musgrove in Clinton).

The project is a partnership with the Laurens County Water and Sewer Commission and represents both a beautification effort and a meaningful way to make an environmental impact. By adding storm drain murals across Laurens County, the community uses art to brighten public spaces while educating residents about protecting local water resources. The initiative's message is: 'Keep it clean, drains to streams.'

Artists have flexibility in how they participate. You can submit artwork that you will paint yourself, or you can hire a professional muralist to execute your design. This makes the opportunity accessible to artists at different skill levels and with varying resources.
