Lawrence Public Art Opportunities - Two Downtown Projects
City of Lawrence seeks artists for Vermont Street garage mural ($5,500) and 2026 World Cup soccer-themed public art exhibition.
The City of Lawrence has issued two exciting calls for artists to create downtown public art. The first opportunity is a mural project for the Vermont Street Parking Garage at 725 Vermont St. Artists are sought to create a design on an 18-foot wide by 10-foot high west-facing wall that reflects the community's character, creativity, and inclusivity. The design may incorporate references to the nearby Lawrence Public Library. A review committee will select up to three finalists who each receive a $300 stipend to develop conceptual proposals, with the final selected artist receiving a $5,500 commission. Applications are open only to Lawrence-based individuals or teams aged 18 and older. The second opportunity is the 2026 Unmistakable Public Art Exhibition, themed 'Celebrate the Spirit of Soccer/Fútbol in Lawrence' in honor of World Cup 2026. This temporary exhibition continues an annual tradition dating back to 1988, previously known as the Outdoor Downtown Sculpture Exhibition. Both opportunities welcome individual artists and collaborative teams, requiring biographical information, work samples, and detailed proposals showcasing previous artistic experience.
