Live Music Lab 2026 Training Programme

Fully funded 3-month training programme for young Johannesburg residents seeking entry-level experience in live music industry. 10 positions available.

Live Music Lab 2026 is a fully funded training programme aimed at young people in Johannesburg seeking entry-level experience in the live music industry. Run by live music platform Bassline in partnership with the National Arts Council (NAC) and Music In Africa Foundation's NEFCISA programme, the programme will select 10 participants for an intensive combination of classroom learning and practical industry exposure.

The three-month programme combines 60 hours of classroom-based training with hands-on work across major live music events and industry platforms in Johannesburg. Classroom sessions run from 2 March to 30 March 2026, followed by practical placements from late March through June. Participants will gain experience working on established music projects including the Rhythmic Clash series, Bassline's artist management operations, the Africa Rising Music Conference, Bassline Fest, and Fête de la Musique.

The programme targets individuals seeking skills in event management, concert promotion, stage and backstage operations, marketing, artist management, and technical production. Training includes an introduction to South Africa's live music ecosystem, career pathways, professional networks, and specialised modules aligned with each participant's strengths. Learners will be mentored by experienced professionals and may shadow industry practitioners during live events.

Eligibility is open to unemployed Johannesburg-based residents aged 18-25 with a matric certificate and demonstrated interest in creative industries, particularly live music.
