Lowell Chamber Orchestra Young Artist & Composers

Annual competition for young musicians and composers. Winners perform with professional orchestra. 15 selected scores for 2026-2027 season.

The Lowell Chamber Orchestra announces finalists for its annual Young Artist Competition and Call-for-Scores initiative, showcasing opportunities for emerging performers and composers. The Young Artist Competition features a highly competitive preliminary round that selects exceptional young musicians from around the world based on technical command, musical sensitivity, and compelling artistry. Finalists advance to a live final round judged by a distinguished panel of judges. The competition winner receives a featured soloist performance opportunity with the Lowell Chamber Orchestra in its upcoming season, along with other prizes. This represents an invaluable professional opportunity for musicians at a pivotal moment in their careers. In the parallel Call-for-Scores initiative, the orchestra received over 200 submissions from composers worldwide. After careful review, 15 outstanding works were selected to advance to a second round with a new set of judges. One composition will ultimately be selected for performance in the orchestra's 2026-2027 season. The selected scores demonstrate diverse voices, styles, and creative perspectives. The Lowell Chamber Orchestra, Lowell's only professional orchestra, remains committed to performance excellence and cultivation of new music and living composers. All concerts are free to the public, removing socio-economic barriers to classical music. The orchestra's mission extends beyond performance to actively shaping music's future by supporting and showcasing both emerging performers and contemporary composers.
