Luminous Paths 2027 - Call to Artists

Submit proposals for temporary light-based public art installations for Nanaimo's biannual winter arts festival.

The City of Nanaimo is pleased to announce that the Call to Artists for Luminous Paths 2027 is now open. Artists and creative teams are invited to submit proposals for temporary light-based public art installations that will transform Maffeo Sutton Park and surrounding areas during the winter season. Luminous Paths is Nanaimo's biannual winter arts festival celebrating creativity, innovation, and community engagement through light-based artistic expressions. This is an excellent opportunity for both established and emerging artists to showcase their work to a diverse audience and contribute to Nanaimo's vibrant cultural landscape. The festival attracts visitors from across the region and provides a platform for artists to gain recognition and exhibition experience. Proposals should demonstrate artistic excellence, originality, and feasibility for outdoor installation. Artists are encouraged to consider interactive elements, community engagement, and sustainability in their designs. The installations will be evaluated based on creative vision, technical feasibility, safety considerations, and alignment with the festival's themes. Selected artists will receive compensation and support for installation and operation of their works throughout the festival period. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a growing cultural initiative that celebrates artistic expression and brings communities together through illuminating art experiences.
