Lumo Light Festival 2026 Call for Proposals
Oulu invites artists, designers, and lighting professionals to submit proposals for the 2026 Lumo Light Festival, celebrating European Capital of Culture year.
The Lumo Light Festival 2026 is now accepting proposals from artists, designers, lighting professionals, students, and educational institutions. This annual city event organized by the City of Oulu attracts approximately 100,000 visitors each year and will be held from Thursday to Sunday, November 19–22, 2026.
As part of Oulu's designation as European Capital of Culture 2026, the Lumo Light Festival will be celebrated on a larger scale than in previous years. The 2026 festival will last four days, one day longer than previously, and will expand beyond the city centre to the Oulu River estuary. The theme for this year's festival is "The Other Side."
This is an excellent opportunity for local artists and creators to showcase their work in light art and gain wider international visibility. The City of Oulu is particularly encouraging applications from artists based in Oulu and other parts of Northern Finland.
Creators must submit their proposals using the official application form by 4:00 p.m. on March 13, 2026. Detailed information and the application form are available on the official Lumo website at lumo.ouka.fi.
According to Leevi Lehtinen, Project Manager of the Light Matters project, "The European Capital of Culture year will enable the light festival to grow larger than in previous years and gain wider international visibility. This is also a great opportunity for local artists to showcase their work in the field of light art."
