Lunar New Year Artbook Contest for Youth
Long Beach-Qingdao Association invites artists aged 9-18 to submit artwork celebrating the Year of the Horse and Lunar New Year traditions.
The Long Beach-Qingdao Association (LBQA), a Sister City organization, is hosting its second annual Lunar New Year artbook contest for young artists. This is an exciting opportunity for students aged 9-18 with a connection to Long Beach to showcase their creative talents and celebrate cultural traditions.
Following the success of the 2024-2025 school year, which saw 35 student submissions from both Long Beach and Qingdao, China, the organization is expanding the contest for another year. The previous year's contest was incredibly successful, with winning artworks being transformed into quilts, jigsaw puzzles, and mugs that were distributed to celebrate the artists' contributions.
This year's contest features two creative prompts:
1. The Year of the Horse
2. How do you celebrate Lunar New Year?
Artists are invited to explore these themes through their chosen medium and share their unique perspectives and cultural celebrations. The contest celebrates both individual creativity and international cultural exchange between Long Beach and its sister city in China.
Selected artists will be celebrated at a special event at the new 2nd and PCH mall in Long Beach, where their work will be displayed and recognized. This provides an excellent opportunity for young artists to have their work professionally exhibited and to be part of a meaningful cultural celebration.
To participate, artists must register by following the QR code on the contest flyer or by contacting the organization directly. The deadline and specific submission guidelines can be found on the official flyer.
