MaineHealth Waldo Hospital Art Exhibition Program
12-week rotating art exhibitions at Maine hospitals for artists with ties to Maine and New England, promoting healing through art.
MaineHealth Waldo Hospital in Belfast offers a unique opportunity for artists to showcase their work in a healthcare setting through their rotating art exhibition program. The MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals Art Committee, comprised of care team members from both hospitals, organizes 12-week exhibitions that display artwork along the first-floor hallway near the laboratory and cardiac rehabilitation department. The program began with a call for artists in January, seeking works from artists with ties to Maine and New England. From the submissions received, 23 artists were selected to reflect the committee's mission of creating a welcoming environment through art that feels comforting and engaging while celebrating the diversity, history, and beauty of the Midcoast region. Each piece is thoughtfully selected to promote healing and create a beautiful environment for patients, visitors, and care team members. The exhibitions feature QR codes that visitors can scan with smartphones or tablets to access additional information about the featured artists. This program represents an ongoing effort to showcase a diverse range of artists and mediums from across Maine, providing valuable exposure in a meaningful community setting where art serves a therapeutic purpose.
