Maui Public Art Corps Fall 2025 Call to Artists
Create site-specific public artworks rooted in community stories from Hui Mo'olelo collection, transforming authentic narratives into participatory art.
Maui Public Art Corps has launched its Fall 2025 Call to Artists, inviting creatives to transform authentic community stories into site-specific, participatory public artworks that reflect the history, culture and identity of Maui County. This commissioned opportunity requires proposed artworks to be rooted in talk-story audio excerpts from the Hui Mo'olelo collection, a community storytelling program developed in partnership with the County of Maui and cultural consultant Sissy Lake-Farm. Selected artists will collaborate closely with community members and cultural advisors to bring intergenerational stories to life through various media formats. Opportunity categories include New Media Projects (light, projection, digital installations), Fine Art Performances (pop-up, street or site-based), Interactive/Participatory Works inviting community involvement, Mural or Surface-Based Installations on large-scale surfaces, and Experiential/Environmental Installations that are landscape-scale or site-integrated. This is a commissioned opportunity, not a grant, where artists are selected for creativity and experience, then work collaboratively to develop truly site-specific and community-rooted works that strengthen connections between residents, visitors and place.
