Metro Bus Shelter Photomural Call for Artists
King County Metro seeks photographers and artists to create photomurals for bus shelters exploring cultural heritage and personal identity.
King County Metro is partnering with Photographic Center Northwest (PCNW) to invite photographers and artists of all ages to submit images for installation as public art in bus shelters throughout the region. This is an excellent opportunity to have your work displayed in everyday public spaces while contributing to community beautification and cultural expression.
The theme "Show Us Your World – Cultural Heritage" encourages submissions that explore personal and cultural identity, celebrating traditions passed down through generations, contributions of women and gender-diverse people, shared community bonds, and individual connections to past, present, and future.
Submissions are open from January 12 through February 8, 2026. Up to 100 photos will be selected and printed for installation in bus shelters, where they will remain for up to 10 years. Selected images will be printed in two sizes: horizontal panels (28.5" x 23.5") or vertical panels (12.5" x 23.5"). All submissions must follow a 4:1 panoramic ratio, though artists can crop existing work or create collages to achieve this format.
A panel of jurors from King County Metro and PCNW will review all entries. This program has successfully installed over 1,500 photomurals since its launch in 2010, making King County's public spaces more beautiful, interesting, and culturally rich. The initiative aims to incorporate art into everyday life, increase visibility of photographic arts, and share diverse perspectives with all community members.
