Milano Calling – Swiss Institute Residency

Seven-month immersive residency in Milan for emerging artists and researchers to collaborate across disciplines with financial support available.

The Milano Calling Residency Program by the Istituto Svizzero offers a seven-month immersive opportunity for emerging artists and researchers to collaborate across disciplines in Milan. This transdisciplinary platform enables participants to develop innovative projects that merge art, science, and contemporary practice while engaging in global discourse on art and society.

The residency emphasizes cross-disciplinary collaboration, international exchange, and experimental practices. Residents participate in study trips, workshops, exhibitions, networking events, and exchanges with counterparts from Roma Calling and Palermo Calling programs. Each resident receives access to the Swiss Institute's digital resources, international networks, Italian language courses, and institutional libraries.

Key benefits include a seven-month immersive stay in Milan with one artist and one researcher selected per year, participation in professional development activities, planning and executing an independent event with institutional support, and contribution to online platforms. Residents cohabitate with another resident to foster collaboration and receive a small weekday lunch contribution. Financial support of up to CHF 1,500/month is available if external funding cannot be secured.

Eligible applicants include researchers and doctoral/postdoctoral candidates in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences; artists in fine arts, design, architecture, film, literature, dance, theatre, and music; and emerging professionals motivated to engage in cross-disciplinary work. International applicants are welcome. Applicants must formulate a project proposal demonstrating interdisciplinary collaboration, prepare documentation of academic or professional experience, and submit according to Istituto Svizzero guidelines.
