Mural Design Call for Artists - Safford Library

Safford City-Graham County Library seeks Arizona-based artists to design a 628-square-foot mural on its north exterior wall with $40,000 funding.

The Safford City-Graham County Library has opened a call for artists to design a large-scale mural on its north exterior wall. This project is funded by a $40,000 budget that was originally intended for facility signage. The mural will be displayed on a 628-square-foot space at 808 S. Seventh Ave, which faces Eighth Street at the high-traffic corner of Eighth Street and Eighth Avenue, making it a highly visible community landmark.

The Safford City Council recently authorized the library to use up to $40,000 for the mural installation. While the council has capped spending at $40,000, Library Director Victoria Silva previously indicated that actual costs are expected to be lower. Based on consultations with the Sedona Arts Center, the project is estimated to cost between $18,000 and $24,000.

The library is seeking designs that reflect its role in the community, celebrate literacy and knowledge, and foster local pride. The goal is to transform the building into an "artistic landmark" that enhances the library's presence as a community hub.

While the search is open to all artists and teams across Arizona, preference will be given to local artists from the Safford and Graham County area. This is an excellent opportunity for artists to create a large-scale public artwork that will have significant visibility and community impact.
