Mural Design Proposal for Hailey

Hailey Arts & Historic Preservation Commission seeks artists to design a mural for Valley Car Wash. $10,000 budget available.

The Hailey Arts & Historic Preservation Commission has issued a call for artists to propose a design for a new mural in Hailey. The new mural will be located on the western wall of Valley Car Wash, facing State Highway 75. The space provides approximately 25 feet by 30 feet for artwork that captures the unique heart of Hailey, including natural landscapes and recreational opportunities in and around the area.

The city has allocated $10,000 for this mural project, which includes both labor and materials. The commission expects the project to be completed by October 1, 2026, depending on the final project scope, weather conditions, and availability of the selected artist.

This is part of Hailey's ongoing public art initiative. Previous murals include Kevin Fitzpatrick's great horned owl mural on Jane's Artifacts (2019), John Zender Estrada's Día de los Muertos mural at Hop Porter Park (2022), and Kika MacFarlane's 72-foot "Nature Windows" mural on Sturtevants (2024).

Interested artists or teams of artists should submit a minimum of three conceptual designs along with a portfolio, budget proposal, and artist's statement by email. The preferred proposal must be approved by the Arts & Historic Preservation Commission, city staff, City Council, and Valley Car Wash owners.
