National Gallery Art Remix Open Call
Recreate masterworks from the National Gallery's collection and win $3,000. Top 50 artists will have their work displayed.
The National Gallery of Art is launching an innovative open call challenging artists to recreate one of 100 chosen works from its collection in any way imaginable. This is an exciting opportunity for amateur and professional artists to showcase their creative interpretations and earn substantial compensation.
The competition invites creators from all disciplines—painters, illustrators, meme makers, digital artists, and more—to reimagine classic artworks. Artists can interpret pieces in virtually any medium: pebbles styled into a Picasso, landscapes carved into mountains, water features mirroring historic paintings, or choreographed dances inspired by sculptures. The National Gallery seeks to bridge the gap between social media creativity and fine art institutions.
Selected artists will have their work displayed at the National Gallery of Art itself, as well as featured on the museum's social media channels, reaching millions of followers. The top 50 submissions will be selected to create vertical videos of their interpretations.
Each of the 50 selected artists will receive a $3,000 prize. According to Sydni Myers, the National Gallery's social media manager, the museum is cultivating a dedicated space for these creators' work to shine, inviting artists to 'co-author culture' with the institution.
This is a unique opportunity to gain exposure at one of the world's most prestigious museums while earning significant compensation. Artists will have their vertical video content professionally displayed alongside works by Leonardo da Vinci, Claude Monet, and other masters.
