New Braunfels Traffic Control Box Art Campaign
New Braunfels launched a local art campaign featuring artist designs on seven traffic control boxes with the theme 'Life's a Splash!'
The City of New Braunfels has launched an innovative public art initiative called 'New Braunfels: Life's a Splash!' featuring local artists' designs on seven traffic control boxes throughout the city. This campaign represents a successful model for community-based public art programs that celebrate local culture and identity. The selected works include Ruston Burst's 'Splashing Duck' at S. Castell & W. Coll Street and Grace Pfeiffer's 'NBTX River Life, go with the flow' at S. Union Avenue. The project aimed to transform utilitarian infrastructure into vibrant artistic expressions that reflect New Braunfels' unique character. Selection criteria emphasized visual impact, community engagement, interactivity, photo opportunities, local connection, creativity, and alignment with the splash theme. Mayor Neal Linnartz emphasized that the theme celebrates everything that makes New Braunfels dynamic and joyful, inviting artists to interpret 'a splash' through their unique perspectives. The initiative sought bold colors, imaginative compositions, and designs capturing the community's essence, reflecting the city's energy, diversity, and charm shaped by music, culture, food, and history. This project demonstrates how municipalities can successfully engage local artists while enhancing public spaces and creating community pride through accessible public art installations.
