NYC DOT Art Installations 2026 RFP

NYC DOT seeks professional artists to create temporary art installations for Car-Free Earth Day and Summer Streets 2026 events across NYC.

NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) is seeking submissions from professional artists for art installations to be displayed at Car-Free Earth Day or Summer Streets events in 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for artists to showcase their work on a citywide platform while receiving funding for their projects.

For Car-Free Earth Day, selected artists will create a one-day art installation and may receive up to $10,000. For Summer Streets, selected artists will create installations to be displayed on at least two dates and may receive up to $20,000 to cover project-related costs. Large-scale installations with potential to be displayed at all Summer Streets events spanning multiple weekends may be eligible for a budget of up to $50,000.

Strong applications should contain a clear written concept and rendering that reflect the event's mission, demonstrate consideration for weather conditions, can be installed and deinstalled within one hour, and include past work samples demonstrating successful execution experience. Proposals that include interactive elements or complementary programming are strongly encouraged.

Not appropriate for this opportunity: performances, mural art, and programming alone. Artists must submit proposals specifically for art installations that transform public spaces into engaging visual experiences.

Submissions are being accepted through the Signature Events Art Interventions Request for Proposals 2026 on Submittable. The deadline has been extended to February 11th, 2026, at 11:59pm EST. This is a competitive opportunity that requires careful planning and professional presentation of artistic concepts.
