Orange County Animal Services Public Art Commission

Orange County seeks artists for $145,500 public art commission at new Animal Services facility. Family-friendly artwork needed.

Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs is seeking applications from individual artists or artist teams to develop artwork for the new Orange County Animal Services facility in Orlando, Florida. This is a significant public art opportunity valued at $145,500, designed to create a welcoming, family-friendly environment for pets and adopters.

The new facility features a modern two-story design with the first floor including dog kennels and designated indoor and outdoor areas for pet interactions. The second floor is dedicated to feline care and housing. The artwork should complement the building's mission of animal care and adoption while fostering a welcoming environment dedicated to the humane treatment, respect, and protection of all animals.

Artists are encouraged to create visually engaging, lively, positive, and playful artwork suitable for children of all ages and their pets. The art should enhance the facility's compassionate mission of helping displaced animals find lifelong homes. Finalists will receive a $1,500 design stipend in addition to the commission opportunity.

Applications are being accepted through the CaFÉ Call for Entry system, with a deadline of January 13, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Both individual artists and artist teams are eligible to apply. Construction on the facility is slated to begin in early 2026, making this an excellent opportunity for artists to contribute to a meaningful community project.
