Orcas Center Visual Arts Exhibition Opportunities
Two exhibition opportunities for artists at Orcas Center: Featured Artist shows and Community shows for island residents.
The Visual Arts Committee (VAC) of Orcas Center offers two distinct exhibition opportunities for artists. Featured Artist exhibitions are planned 6-18 months in advance, with calls typically going out in late summer/early fall for the following year. These solo shows run 4-6 weeks in the lobby and Madrona Room, requiring 80% of work to be for sale with a 70/30 commission split (60/40 for non-members). Featured artists must attend opening receptions and give presentations about their work. Community shows are open to all island artists regardless of experience level, designed to showcase local creativity. Artists bring ready-to-display work on installation day (typically Wednesdays) and fill out labels and agreements. Both types of exhibitions include opening receptions on Friday evenings from 5:30-7pm, with artists encouraged to contribute refreshments. The VAC promotes shows through posters, press releases, website listings, newsletters, and marquee displays. All artwork must be professionally presented with proper hanging hardware or support systems. Artists are responsible for transport, insurance, and pickup of their work. The program encourages recent work and networking opportunities within the island arts community.
