Oviedo Centennial Mural Design Competition
Design a public mural for Oviedo's 100th anniversary. $3,000 stipend plus $4,000 materials budget. Deadline March 31.
The City of Oviedo, Florida is seeking artists to design a commemorative mural for Center Lake Park as part of the city's centennial celebration. This public art opportunity invites Florida artists aged 18 and older to create an original design that reflects the values and culture of Oviedo's community and downtown landscape.
The mural must be suitable for public, pedestrian-friendly environments and painted with exterior-grade materials capable of withstanding Florida's weather conditions. Importantly, city leaders have established strict criteria prohibiting the use of artificial intelligence to generate or enhance submitted designs, ensuring all work represents authentic artist creativity.
The winning artist will receive a $3,000 stipend for design and execution, with an additional $4,000 budget available for materials and equipment. The successful design will be painted at Center Lake Park, a central community gathering space.
Submission requirements include: completed entry form via the City's website, colored design of the proposed mural, current résumé or CV, one-paragraph biography, artist's statement describing the vision, artist's narrative about their connection to Oviedo, images of past artwork, and a proposed project schedule.
The design should reflect the community's values, be appropriate for the public space, and use weather-resistant exterior materials. All submissions must be original work created without AI assistance. This is an excellent opportunity for Florida artists to contribute to their community's milestone celebration while creating a lasting public artwork.
