Palermo Calling Art & Science Residency

Transdisciplinary residency program for artist-researcher duos combining art, science, and society with financial support up to CHF 1,500/month.

The Palermo Calling – Art & Science Residency Program, hosted by the Swiss Institute, is a prestigious opportunity for emerging artists and researchers to collaborate on innovative transdisciplinary projects. The program creates a platform for creative and scientific professionals to explore the intersection of art, science, and society through collaborative work.

The residency offers comprehensive support including study trips through Rome, Milano, and Palermo; participation in events and presentation evenings at Swiss Institute locations; workshops, studio visits, and desk visits for hands-on collaboration; and access to the Istituto Svizzero network across Italy, Switzerland, and internationally. Participants also receive digital resources, an intensive Italian language course, and opportunities to present their work with Swiss Institute promotion.

Financial support of up to CHF 1,500 per month is available for residents who cannot secure funding from other sources such as cantons, municipalities, or foundations. This ensures participants can focus fully on their collaborative work and benefit from the academic and artistic ecosystem.

The program accepts Art & Science duos consisting of an experienced artist with a Master's degree or proven professional experience in visual arts, design, architecture, cinema, literature, dance, theatre, performing arts, or music; paired with a researcher at Master's, PhD, or post-doctoral level in any scientific field, including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, or science and technology, affiliated with a higher education institution.

Applicants must develop a project proposal demonstrating the value of collaboration and its contribution to the Art & Science framework. The program emphasizes innovation, experimental practices, and contributions to global discussions on art, science, and societal challenges. International participants of any nationality are welcome to apply.
