Paws of War Service Dog & Animal Rescue Support

Support veterans and first responders through service dog training and animal rescue programs with this Long Island nonprofit organization.

Paws of War is a nonprofit organization based in Nesconset, Long Island that provides multiple services supporting veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders. The organization rescues dogs and cats in need, trains service animals, and reunites service members with animals they bonded with during overseas deployments through their War-Torn Program. Founded in 2014, Paws of War has rescued over 5,000 animals and provided service animals to nearly 1,000 servicemen, servicewomen, first responders, and veterans. They have also facilitated over 800 adoptions to Gold Star families and others. The organization offers both companion and service dog training, with service dog training costing between $10,000-$20,000. They also provide additional training for existing dogs or help train dogs to provide service dog skills. All services are provided at no cost to service members, with funding coming from community donations. Artists and community members can get involved through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness about their programs that provide life-saving support to those who have served.
